Frames Tutorial

In this tutorial, you’ll build an exclusive online story for Cosmopolitan Farmer magazine. In the process, you’ll learn how to use Dreamweaver’s frame-building features and add an advanced site-navigation toolbar.

Getting Started

Before you begin building the page, you’ll need the tutorial files from this book’s Web site. You’ll also need to tell Dreamweaver a bit about the site you’re creating.

  1. Download the files for this tutorial from the companion Web site.

    Using your Web browser, visit http://www.sawmac.com/dwmx/. Click the Tutorials link to go to the tutorials page.

    Then click the link Frames Tutorial—Mac files or Frames Tutorial—Win files, depending on the computer you’re using, to download the tutorial files.

    When the files are downloaded and decompressed, you should have a folder named DWFrames on your computer, containing the Web pages and graphics needed for this tutorial.

    Now launch Dreamweaver and begin:

  2. Choose Site New Site.

    The Site Definition window opens. Make sure the Basic tab is selected.

  3. Type Frames Tutorial in the box and click the Next button.

    This is the Web-site name Dreamweaver will use while you’re working on this tutorial.

  4. Check the “No, I don’t want to use a server technology” radio button and click the Next button.

  5. Make sure the “Edit local copies on my machine” radio button is selected. Click the folder icon next to the field in the middle of the window. Navigate to and select ...
