The grand aim of all science is to cover the greatest number of empirical facts by logical deduction from the smallest number of hypotheses or axioms.


Throughout this book, we have drawn on prior research wherever feasible to provide empirical support for our ideas. We have also used case studies, such as the extended analyses of General Motors and Hewlett-Packard or Russia and Ireland, to show how our ideas apply in specific situations. What we have not yet done is test our ideas in large-sample empirical studies.
