If you think of wireless networks as connecting a virtual mass of users and networked objects, allowing them to converge around specific places, ideas, or activities, in a semi-coordinated fashion, this is in fact a Digital Swarm. Ten social, technological, political, and economic forces will shape the Digital Swarm over the next decade. These key drivers are shown in Figure 1. We’ll look at each of these drivers in more detail here, starting with the idea of Smart Mobs.
