When this book was published in July 2001, there were less than 200 consumer DVD-ROM titles on the market. The disparity between the numbers of DVD-Video titles available, which exceeds 8,000, and the small number of DVD-ROM titles available is due to several factors. First the DVD-Forum has done an excellent job in promoting brand awareness of the DVD-Video format. In the United States nearly 75 percent of a recent survey of consumers were aware of DVD-Video and associated it with high quality home entertainment.
