6.1 Introduction
Electric power systems usually support perturbations which, depending on their severity, eventually could initiate cascading events that might cause total or partial blackouts [1]. In this context, vulnerability assessment needs to be done in order to determine the necessity of triggering different types of protection mechanisms (i.e., System Integrity Protection Schemes (SIPS) or Special Protection Schemes (SPS)) designed to attenuate the risk of these possible blackouts [2, 3].
