Dynamics 365 CE modules went through a few stages of evolution. The first was when the core “Sales,” “Service,” and “Marketing” were separated out into their own Apps, and at around the same time, “Field Service” was also created as a new App. These were often referred to as “App modules” within Dynamics 365 CE.
