This chapter studies three individual but related subjects: (1) the outcomes of EVM usage, (2) barriers for enhancing EVM adoption and usage, and (3) critical success factors for EVM implementation. It first defines the desired project outcomes typically associated with EVM usage and measures the relative contributions of EVM to these outcomes based on practitioners’ perceptions. The second part of the chapter tries to answer the question of how to improve EVM acceptance and usage. If practitioners believe that EVM usage contributes to achieving favorable project outcomes, we may ask what concerns prevent enhancement of EVM acceptance and usage.
