Lean Accounting Systems
IN TRADITIONAL COMPANIES, much of what comprises information systems deals with accounting, and almost all traditional information systems include focus on standard cost accounting. You could write a whole book on the accounting changes you need to make as a lean manufacturer, and, in fact, such a book already exists: Real Numbers, Management Accounting for a Lean Organization, by Jean Cunningham and Orest Fiume. The book you are currently reading, however, focuses specifically on what you need to know (based on the changes you want to make in accounting) about the changes you need to make in your information systems.
