The Client nodded his head as he considered the question. What else could this mean?
He said, “It could mean that I uncover some new possibilities for my company. It could mean that I get one step closer to having the courage to tell them I'm done. It could mean that I don't get to watch the game. It could mean that I take my family out to dinner and tell them how much they mean to me, to make up for lost time together. It could mean a lot of things.”
The Coach borrowed the notepad and wrote down two words. “When it comes to difficult times, people are looking for this,” he said, pointing to the two words: GET THROUGH. “They want to know how to ‘get through’ it. In other words, how to cope.”
“Right,” the Client said. “I'm looking for a way to get through this weekend. And how to get through this dead-end job, so I can find what's next.”
“I know that feeling. I know that impulse,” the Coach said, glancing at a nearby bookshelf. What did he see there, the Client wondered. The Coach paused.
“When my dad passed away, right in the middle of COVID, I wondered how I was going to get through it.”
