Chapter 2. Getting Started with Facebook
To use Facebook, you have to sign up for your own personal account. Your account is free; there’s no fee to join and no monthly membership fees. (Facebook is almost entirely ad supported—which means you see ads on your home page.)
When you sign up for Facebook, you’re prompted to enter a variety of personal information. The more Facebook knows about you, the more it can suggest friends and activities for to enjoy.
You’re also prompted to find friends who are already using the Facebook site. This is how you start building your friends list—by finding people you know who are currently Facebook users.
