What’s a Keyframe?
A keyframe is a frame on which you specify that something should
happen. For example, we’re setting frame 20 as a keyframe. We can then
specify that the rock (which starts out at the top of the hill in frame 1)
should be at the bottom of the hill in that keyframe. Flash then does the
work to animate the rock between keyframes so everything appears to
move smoothly.

Moving Objects
You can move as many objects
as you like in a single
keyframe. You can also stagger
keyframes. For example, we
could have created a second
rock and specified that it should
be at the bottom on frame 15.

TIP
What’s a Tween?
Tweening is a term from tradi-
tional animation. It refers to the
process of creating the frames
between keyframes so every-
thing appears to be moving (or
changing) smoothly.

TIP
Watch Your Speed
The more frames per second you use, the smoother your animation will
look. However, there’s a limit to how fast you should go because not all
computers are created equal. If you set your image to use, say, 60 fps, it
might look great on your computer, but 1 second takes 60 images. A user’s
machine might take 4 or 5 seconds for this same animation.
