Apple includes many applications with every new Mac. Some—for example, TextEdit, Front Row, Address Book, iCal, iChat, and Safari—are located in the Applications folder. Other applications, such as iLife and iWork, are available separately. iLife comes preinstalled with every new Mac. iWork is available as a free 30-day trial from Apple’s website.
Applications enable you to do a specific set of tasks on your computer. For example, TextEdit enables you to work with text.
