Advanced AC and DC technologies to connect offshore wind farms into electricity transmission and distribution networks

Abstract

This chapter briefly describes the different types of wind turbines used for offshore wind power generation. AC and DC technologies used for collecting wind power at medium-voltage levels are discussed. Topologies of high-voltage DC networks which are suitable for offshore wind power transmission are also discussed. A case study is given to investigate the use of converters of DC networks to control offshore wind farms with induction generators.
