Survival of self-employment under COVID-19—evidence from Slovakia

ABSTRACT: Self-employment represents an important part of the Slovak economy. It is also one of the areas most affected by COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of the article is to analyze the short-term effects of COVID-19 pandemic on self-employment (represented by tradesmen) in Slovakia. The article focuses on the number of newly established trades, number of terminated trades, including number of bankrupted trades in the period from 2017 to 2021.
