In its early years, the cinema simply adopted the theatrical conventions of the time in order to communicate. The long shot of the face-on fixed camera was the standard way to record and reproduce reality, and had no other aim than to portray reality, share it and entertain audiences through the projection of moving images of far-off places and spectacular novel events that they could not experience first-hand.
