Modern Development: An Analysis of The Development Dictionary
This section of the study contains an examination of different authors' chapters in The Development Dictionary (Sachs 1992a) in which the central concepts of the discourse on modem development are investigated. In addition to the eight different concepts from the book, a section on education was created from two of Ivan Illich's works. Illich is a contributor to The Development Dictionary and a colleague of the authors. Throughout the authors' essays, common issues appear concerning the meaning of modem development and how certain ideas bear upon dominant and subaltem societies.
