Multi-AZ

The multi-AZ feature available at https://aws.amazon.com/rds/details/multi-az/ maintains a second copy of your RDS instance, using the master-slave technique in another availability zone (AZ). If there is an issue with the master instance (or in the whole AZ where the master instance is located), the DNS name is automatically switched to the slave instance. Using this feature, two RDS instances will always be up. In addition, the cost will be doubled. For this reason, it is convenient to only use it in production.
