INTRODUCTION

The fourth step in the effective prototyping process is defining the right prototyping characteristics. Characteristics should be established before selecting a prototyping method because they help define the kind of prototype needed and the prototype traits, such as fidelity and style. Defining characteristics is important because they inform the prototyper how to prototype, and they also inform a manager what should be prototyped. The methods that fit the different combination of characteristics (Step 5) are discussed in Chapter 7.
