TV Camera Units

Television/video production groups use a number of different camera arrangements – from a single camera unit, to a complex multi-camera setup.

Single camera units

Here the production is shot with a single walkabout video camera. For briefer takes, this generally rests on the operator’s shoulder. Otherwise it is attached to some form of mounting – typically a tripod.

For sound pickup, a microphone fitted to the camera may be used. But for higher quality and better positioning, a separate microphone is preferable – often on a fishpole held by another operator.

Recorded as in a camcorder, on a video cassette recorder (VCR) that is either inbuilt, or attached to the camera.
