6 Manipulating Data
The previous chapter starts by introducing a couple of new data types that can be used to represent information in Flex. Then the rest of that chapter goes through the most important components you’ll use to display data in Flash applications. This chapter builds on that one in many ways. First, you’ll learn how to customize how data is displayed in those components by using label functions and item renderers. You’ll also be introduced to one more data-driven component, the DataGroup, which uses item renderers exclusively. The chapter concludes with Flex’s built-in formatters and validators, both of which provide quick and easy ways to work with common data elements.
