Configuring the WebSphere Application Server

In this section, we configure a base WebSphere Application Server to install and run the sample application.

There are two parts to the configuration that are required by the sample application:

  • The JDBC driver and data source for the EJBBANK database that is used by the container-managed beans.

  • The JMS listener, the connection factory, and the queues for the message-drive bean.

Start the server and the administrative console

To configure the server, we use the administrative console:

  • Start the server (from the program group, from First Steps, or as a service).
  • Start the administrative console (from the program group or from First Steps).
  • Log in with your normal user ID (Figure 18-1).
