High-Performance Control of Synchronous Machines
7.1 Introduction
Synchronous machines are widely used as both generators and motors. Power generation plants use synchronous generators to convert large amounts of mechanical energy to electrical energy, which is then transmitted to commercial, industrial, and residential consumers. Synchronous motors are available in a variety of forms and ratings from fractional Watts to hundreds of kilowatts.
