Induction Motor Equivalent Circuit

A2.1. Introduction

This appendix explores the steady-state equivalent circuit of the induction motor, and the reasons for including it are that it provides a simple method for quantitative performance predictions; the parameters that appear (e.g. leakage reactance, magnetizing reactance) are common currency in any discussion of induction motors, and understanding what they mean is necessary if we wish to engage effectively with those who use the language; and finally a knowledge of the behavior of the circuit with slip brings a new perspective to support the ‘physical’ basis followed in Chapters 5 and 6.
