Chapter 5. Tools
This chapter introduces some of the various tools that will help engineers obtain the information they are looking for, offering guidelines for selecting the tools they'll most need. The first tools described are meters and scopes, including oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. The chapter then explains how useful simulators can be with the caution that it is easy to over-rely on them, and that the foundational knowledge presented in this book can help avoid this. It then covers hardware such as soldering irons, solder, tape, and hand pumps, and practical methods of using them. The chapter concludes with people as tools, describing the structure of companies who provide hardware.
