Grounding and Bonding
OVERVIEW
This chapter covers inspections of grounding and bonding of electrical systems and equipment. The reasons for grounding and bonding fall into two general categories:
1. Limiting voltages to ground
2. Providing low-impedance paths for ground-fault current
Both of these reasons support the primary purpose of the National Electrical Code® (NEC®) as stated in Article 90: the protection of persons and property from hazards arising from the use of electricity. Electrical systems, circuit conductors, and electrical equipment are grounded to provide safety to the users of electrical equipment during normal and fault conditions.
