Electrical Equipment Life Expectancy, Aging, and Failures |
6.1 LIFE EXPECTANCY FOR DISTRIBUTION AND TRANSMISSION EQUIPMENT
6.1.1 ESTIMATION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT LIFETIME
A power system is composed of a number of components, such as lines, cables, transformers, circuit breakers (CBs), disconnectors, and so on. Every component in a power system has an inherent risk of failure. Multiple outside factors influence the possibility of component failure; for example, the current-loading of the component, damage by third parties (human or animal), and trees. Atmospheric conditions such as temperature, humidity, pollution, wind, rain, snow, ice, lightning, and solar effect may play a significant role in the component failure [1].
