Per-unit System

OBJECTIVES

In this chapter you will learn about:

  • Per-unit calculations use simpler numbers and are less subject to errors
  • Per-unit fractions are unit-less, as they are always the ratios of the same inputs
  • Zpn is universally proportional to the square of the base voltage and directly proportional to the base kVA
  • A per-line voltage is the same as a per-unit phase voltage. The use of Equation in three phase is almost eliminated
  • Per-unit values are usually less than unity
  • Three-phase activities are treated identically as d.c. or single-phase systems
