Abstract:
The evolution of electricity T&D networks over the last few decades has greatly advanced research in the field of material engineering. This chapter reviews the use of state-of-the-art materials for high voltage (HV) applications, focusing on circuit breakers. The first section will discuss the switchgear principle and the roles materials can play in this process, and will review the ways that the interaction arc and materials used can influence the endurance of HV circuit breaker chambers.
