Abstract:

HVDC is a technology which has been used for long-distance bulk power transfer, connecting different synchronous zones or submarine connections. Lately, HVDC has experienced a revival. In Europe, this revival is being driven by the strong increase in generation from renewable energy sources, the liberalization of the energy system, and the difficulty in investing in new overhead transmission.
