26.1 Introduction
Remediating contaminated soil, sludge, and sediment (SSS) requires advanced technology and has high environmental costs, which leads to high annual operating costs [1]. Electrokinetic treatment can improve the quality of the environment. This technology is commonly known as electro‐reclamation [2], electrochemical remediation [3], or electro‐decontamination [4]. It is an emerging fine SSS treatment and recovery approach that utilizes direct current in improving the quality of SSS contaminated with ionic and nonionic materials [5].
