8    Approximation Methods

Most electromagnetic boundary problems, whether formulated as differential equations or as integral equations, cannot be solved in closed form. We therefore have to find approximate solutions, in either analytical or numerical form. In this chapter, we will present several types of analytical approximation methods that are particularly appropriate for problems formulated as integral equations (although they have much more general applicability), and apply them to some practical problems.
