General Theory of Surface-Wave Propagation

3.1 Introduction

Chapter 2 was chiefly devoted to the propagation of the surface-plasmon-polariton wave guided by the planar interface of a metal and a homogeneous, isotropic, and dielectric material. The important features of this SPP wave emerge from solving a canonical boundary-value problem, although practical implementation requires the use of a prism-coupled configuration, a grating-coupled configuration, or a waveguide-coupled configuration.
