6.4. Technology Mapping

The logic optimization algorithms described thus far operate on Boolean networks. The optimization aims at simplifying logic expressions and is independent of the target implementation technology. To finish the logic synthesis steps, we need to implement logic gates with physical layouts. One solution to it is to perform technology mapping, which is one of the most important tasks in technology dependent optimization. It takes on a technology-independently optimized logic netlist, and expresses the netlist using a set of pre-designed and pre-characterized gate layouts from a technology library.
