John Bardeen and Walter Brattain of Bell Telephone Laboratory, America, invented the point contact transistor in the year 1948. Subsequently these two along with William Shockley replaced the point contact transistor by junction transistor in 1949. They were jointly awarded Nobel Prize in recognition of this unique work in Physics.
