So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Overview
Provides a low-cost method of detecting selectable electrical fields. This device detects both positive and negative electrical fields produced by ions, ultralow static fields, lightning, and other associated phenomena.
Hazards
No real hazards exist, with the exception of using this device during electrical storms or around other high-voltage sources (and this is just the physical hazard of holding a metal object under these conditions). Eye protection should be worn when making and testing this device.
