Moving-magnet (MM) Phono Amplifiers

The previous chapter treated the phono amplifier as a black box, possibly with variable gain, while examining how it can be integrated into a preamplifier. This chapter dives inside the black box to look at the various ways in which a phono amplifier can be implemented, taking the desirability of variable gain as axiomatic.

It is explained in Chapter 12 that a highpass filter operating below 20 Hz is highly desirable to remove subsonic disturbances produced by the vinyl surface, and this is considered an integral part of the phono amplifier.
