Diodes are used almost everywhere for converting alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), signal detection, switching or diverting signals, or even controlling the gain of signals. For example, in every AC adapter that generates a DC power supply, diodes are used whether the AC adapter is a conventional iron-core linear adapter or a highly efficient switching-power-supply circuit.
