Abstract:

Creating a functional valve equivalent to the appropriate tissue structure and mechanical properties of the heart is a key issue in the area of heart valve tissue engineering. The design and production of three-dimensional scaffolds with both microscopically and macroscopically optimised material properties to regulate tissue development and ultimately valve functioning is believed to be critical.
