Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is a suite of protocols; two of the components in the suite form the protocol’s name: TCP and IP.

IP was developed as part of the TCP effort to provide logically addressed and structured networking. The primary role of IP is to provide logical addresses and support the routing of traffic to its destination.
