PIC® Microcontroller

Abstract

This chapter describes the PIC® microcontroller from a C programmer’s point of view. The internal hardware configuration is described, including opcodes, stack, clock, program memory, RAM, special function registers (SFRs), and configuration bits. The different chip families and other variations are covered.

The reader is introduced to all the various peripherals that may be found on a PIC®. Basic hardware connections including the oscillator options and the debugging interface are shown in this chapter.

Included as well is a description of using a bootloader in embedded programs and the format of .hex files.
