Time-Domain Signals and Systems
This chapter uses several noise reduction examples and experiments to introduce important time-domain techniques for processing digital signals and analyzing simple DSP systems. The detailed analysis and more advanced methods are introduced in Chapter 3, using frequency-domain techniques.
With the easy accessibility of increasingly powerful personal computers and the availability of powerful and easy-to-use MATLAB software for computer simulations, we can now learn DSP concepts more effectively. This chapter uses hands-on methods to introduce fundamental time-domain DSP concepts because it is more interesting to examine real-world DSP applications with the help of interactive MATLAB tools.
In particular, this chapter uses the latest powerful graphical user interface (GUI) tool called Signal Processing Tool, which comes with the Signal Processing Toolbox . Because each experiment requires a set of general problem-solving skills and related DSP principles, we provide multiple contexts including the necessary DSP theory, computer simulations, and hands-on experiments for achieving thorough understanding. Most of the DSP subjects are covered in the introduction to hands-on exercises and experiments. These experiments are organized to introduce DSP subjects from the simple introductory subjects in this chapter and gradually introduce more complicated experiments and applications in subsequent chapters. Each experiment ...
