As previously mentioned, a link-layer protocol may be able to implement mesh-under mechanisms, which hide the complexity of the topology for the upper layers. A different approach is applied when the link-layer protocol does not implement this feature, or whenever the mesh solution may be extended across different network interfaces, and thus must implement a standard protocol that is interface-agnostic.
