The EMC and Radio Directives
2.1 History
The relaxed EMC regime that existed throughout most of Europe up until the early 1990s was overturned with the adoption by the European Commission on 1st January 1992 of the EMC Directive, 89/336/EEC [191]. This was at the time widely regarded to be “the most comprehensive, complex and possibly contentious Directive ever to emanate from Brussels” [33]. It was eventually superseded by its second edition, published at the very end of 2004; and that in turn has been superseded by a third edition, taking effect in 2016. At the same time, the Radio and Telecomm Terminal Equipment Directive (R&TTED), which partnered the EMCD since 2000, has been superseded by the Radio Equipment Directive. This chapter ...
