By this point, I hope I have established some goals for the rest of the book. As a teacher, I’ve noticed that it is very useful to put ideas into a context, to see how and why we are approaching them in the order we are, how one idea (like test-driven development) pertains to another idea (like patterns), and so forth.

It’s time to start that process, and so I’m introducing the visual concept of “building a pyramid” to help you to absorb the rest of the book in just such a context.
