14 Importance of Cybersecurity and Its Subdomains

14.1 Introduction
With the advancement in various technologies and inventions, the number of users in the cyberspace has increased exponentially in the last decade. Availability of high-speed Internet with large data storage and smartphones have changed the lifestyle of the people in recent time. Smartphones and the Internet have become the most essential living things for human beings in the last few years. The current generation has witnessed migration of mankind from physical to virtual world and this transformation has taken place so rapidly that people couldn’t even realize when they became addicted to these high-end technologies. Being the most crowded and virtual space, cyberspace has also attracted criminals toward it. The number of crimes committed in recent years have proved that if a space is not controlled by any jurisdiction then it can become highly vulnerable for legitimate and innocent people.
Looking at the high number of crimes committed and reported in cyberspace, a need to secure cyberspace has been realized by the individuals, organizations, and governments of different regions and countries. The “Cybersecurity Profession” like the terms “cyberspace” and “cybercrimes” has also become one of the most popular terms in the last decade.
