Abstract

For decades, tremendous efforts have been made by biomedical and pharmaceutical researchers to treat diseases affecting the central nervous system (CNS). The blood–brain barrier effectively protects the brain, but poses a formidable challenge to drug delivery. Many conventional drugs cannot cross the BBB in therapeutic concentrations (less than 1%).
