Abstract

Basic ideas are outlined of an approach to genome analysis, called infogenomics. The starting point of its perspective is the idea of considering a genome as an information source, in the sense of Shannon’s information theory. In this way, many concepts can be defined and many kinds of computations can be performed that give important clues about the global structure of genomes. In the chapter the main research lines of this approach are briefly outlined together with some open problems and future lines of investigation. ...
