Education to be Rooted in and Guided by Constitutionalism

This chapter argues that ‘constitutionalism’ is the foundation for a secular, democratic culture in India. Every institution, including the educational system, has an obligation to cultivate constitutionalism. This implies an understanding of the organizing principles of constitutional governance in a multi-cultural polity, and a degree of willingness on the part of every citizen to abide by those principles in relation to the state on the one hand and the diversities in society on the other.
