12Electromagnetic Pulse and Voltage Transients
This chapter develops an impedance ratio according to the following ideas. The circuit discussed here consists of a battery, a transmission line, and a switch. The far end of the transmission line is either a short or an open. The battery has an output impedance, Z, that equals the impedance of the transmission line. When the switch is closed, a step function travels down the line at the velocity of propagation. The voltage divides between the characteristic impedance of the line and the source impedance.
