Attachment in the Workplace

Most people shy away from wanting to understand their emotions, especially if they have experienced a great deal of emotional pain or conflict in their past. As a result, workplace conflicts center unproductively on the content of the conflict as opposed to the emotional underpinnings of the interactions. We must begin to understand our emotions and the strategies we have adopted for managing them in order to have safe and effective interactions during times of difficulty. Emotions tell us what matters, and ignoring them prevents us from moving forward. The strategies we learned as children to handle our emotions often carry forward to adulthood. Unfortunately, those strategies do not work as adults.
